Confused About Menopause? You’re Not Alone.

Perimenopause can begin as early as 35, and the transition isn’t the same for everyone. Symptoms and cycles can change unpredictably, making it hard to know where you stand.

That’s why the AZO® Menopause Stage Indicator, an easy, at-home test, measures your FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone). While FSH levels do vary across the menstrual cycle, a regularly elevated FSH can be an indication that a woman is approaching menopause, or in postmenopause. FSH results plus menstrual cycle & symptoms, help to identify whether you’re in peri, menopause or postmenopause

PERIMENOPAUSE

Average Ages -35-50

Think of this as the warm-up stage. Hormones can become irregular, your periods start to change, and you might start noticing symptoms like hot flashes or disrupted sleep.

MENOPAUSE

Average Ages 45-55

You’re officially in menopause when you’ve gone 12 months without a period. Hormone levels like estrogen and progesterone decline, bringing changes to your body and mind.

POSTMENOPAUSE

Average Ages 50+

The final stretch of your menopause journey doesn’t mean the symptoms are behind you. With lower hormone levels, you may experience challenges like hot flashes and vaginal dryness.

Wonderful at home test for women

If you've ever used an at home pregnancy test you'll be very familiar with these. They are very easy to use. Reading them is a little different than just positive or negative but as long as you read the directions, it's pretty straightforward. I suspected that I was in menopause and these tests verified it.

Frequently Asked Questions

FSH stands for follicle stimulating hormone. FSH is a hormone that helps control egg development. When estrogen production declines during the menopausal transition, FSH levels start to fluctuate and increase.

This menopause stage indicator can help you determine if you are in perimenopause, early perimenopause, late perimenopause, early postmenopause or late postmenopause.

Menopause is only one day. It is the day when you have officially gone 12 months without a period. When people say “menopause” they are typically referring to the entire time they experience symptoms- which can be from perimenopause to postmenopause.

No, but first morning urine is best since it contains the highest concentration of FSH. Urine collected at any time of the day may be used.

Foods, alcohol and most medications should not affect the test results. If you are taking hormone replacement therapy, or on hormonal birth control, it is not recommended that you take this test; instead, consult with your healthcare provider about options that are best for you.

Avoid testing on days when you are bleeding heavily.

If any of the following apply to you, this test may not be right for you:

  • You are currently using hormonal birth control
  • You have PCOS or another condition that may affect your hormones and/or menstrual cycle
  • You have had a surgery or procedure (like hysterectomy) that may impact your cycle
  • You are pregnant
  • You are taking hormone replacement therapy or any other hormonal treatment

Tests should be taken every other day. If you have missed a testing day, you can take the test the next day you are able and resume the testing schedule. It is important to note that you should not test on back-to-back days.

FSH levels can fluctuate in some stages of perimenopause and menopause, so it is important to take multiple tests, every other day, to account for the variable levels over time.

You can start at any time, but we recommend:

  • If you are on your period, avoid testing on days you are bleeding heavily
  • Test first thing in the morning, when FSH is the most concentrated in the urine.
  • Ensure it’s a convenient time, you will need at least 9 days to take 5 tests on alternating days.

Bring your FSH test results to your next doctor appointment to discuss with your doctor and ask about AZO® product recommendations for your stage in the menopause journey.
